At least 11 premature babies have been killed in a fire at a hospital in Iraq’s capital, Baghdad.
A health ministry statement said the blaze broke out late on Tuesday inside the maternity unit at the Yarmouk Teaching Hospital, in the city’s west.
Seven other children and 29 women were moved to other hospitals, it said. Sources told the BBC that 19 had to be treated for burns or smoke inhalation.
The ministry said the fire was probably caused by an electrical fault.
No other details were immediately available, but there have been a number of electrical fires at state institutions and shopping centres in Iraq in recent years.
