A large blaze at a waste material recycling plant in Lancashire has been brought under control.

Firefighters from Lancashire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester were called to the unit in Simonswood, West Lancashire on Monday at 04:00 BST.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze was “surrounded” about two hours after it started.

Residents have been told to close windows and doors as a precaution. The cause of the fire is unknown.

A Lancashire fire spokesman said: “Crews are gaining access to seats of fire to ensure they can effectively dampen down the site.”
