The shortlist for this year’s Fire Excellence Awards has been announced. The awards are to be given to the best fire safety products and services.
The Info 4 Fire website announced the shortlist on April 14th. It includes several major companies and organisations serving the fire safety sector. These include Cooper Safety, who have been shortlisted for Best Detection and Alarm Product for their Radio+ / CW900; Fire Protection Ltd, who have a chance to win Best Passive Protection Product for their Flamebar BW18; Kidde Fire Protection, whose Argonite C60 has them shortlisted for Best Suppression Product; Fireco, who might win Best Means of Escape Product for Freedor; the Fire Industry Association and BRE Global who are in the running for the Best Partnership Award; Jersey Fire & Rescue who are among those organisations nominated for Best Training Initiative; Exova Warrington, who have been nominated for the Fire Safety Engineering Award for their work on both Crossrail, Whitechapel and Southmead Hospital, and Ross McHaffie of Serco/HMP Kilmarnock who is among the nominees for Best Fire Safety Manager.
The awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday 17 May 2011 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole hotel and it will celebrate the best products, services and practitioners in UK fire safety. According to Info 4 Fire, the event will be hosted by former star of rugby international Martin Bayfield, winner of thirty one England caps and two Grand Slams. Previously employed as a police protection officer, the mighty Martin, 6’ 10”, has appeared in various roles, including being Robbie Coltrane’s body double in the Harry Potter films; he has also been a BBC Rugby commentator, has hosted Channel Five’s coverage of NFL, and presenting the World’s Strongest Man.
The event will include a drinks reception, a three-course meal and entertainment followed by the awards ceremony itself. The night will end with a charity casino. Tables are still available for people from the industry or who take an interest in the fire and rescue sector who may wish to attend.
