Firefighters were called just after 7.45pm on Wednedsay evening
A fire at a boat store in Hoylake is sending smoke clouds billowing across the town’s playing fields on Wednesday evening.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue crews were called just after 7.45pm to the blaze at a single storey, outbuilding within Hoylake Rugby Club playing fields on Carham Road.
Fire engines from Upton, Birkenhead and Heswall were sent to tackle the blaze and remained on the scene fighting the fire an hour after being called.
Pictures taken from the outside the perimeter of the playing fields showed smoke billowing over the top of the pitches.
Hoylake residents took to social media after spotting the fire.
One Twitter user said: “Big fire in the field of hoylake rugby club right now, firefighters on scene.”
Another person said an outbuilding within the rugby club grounds was on fire.
