STAFF were evacuated from a construction hall at the Cammell Laird shipyard in Birkenhead following a fire this afternoon.
Firecrews were called to the Campbeltown Road yard at around 1.17pm, to tackle a small fire near acetylene cylinders and oxygen cylinders in the hall.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire while an evacuation took place on site.
Hoses have been set up in the for a cylinder-cooling operation that is set to continue for at least 24 hours.
No residential properties have been evacuated.
Campbeltown Road has been closed and all of the buildings requiring evacuation, as a precaution, have now been evacuated in the area.
There were no reports of any injuries.
Four fire engines are on scene to help with water supply to cool the cylinders.
