Fire at derelict pub

Fire crews put out a fire involving the first floor of a two storey derelict pub.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called at 3.12pm to the Abbotsford building on New Chester Road, near Rock Lane East, Rock Ferry. The building was well alight when firefighters arrived.

Around 60% of the first floor was seriously damaged by fire, heat and smoke and 90% of the roof of the building was seriously damaged by fire.

There were no reports of any injuries. An appliance from Birkenhead Community Fire Station, an engine from Bromborough Community Fire Station, a command unit and an aerial appliance from City Centre Community Fire Station attended.

By 5.14pm firefighters were damping down hotspots and crews had left the scene, once the fire was extinguished, by 6.48pm.
