Bridgend primary school pupils evacuated following fire

More than 200 pupils at school in south Wales had to be evacuated after a fire broke out in a junior block yesterday (19th June).

Fire crews were called to Betws Primary School, near Bridgend, shortly before 2.30pm.

Upon their arrival, fire crews found that the building, which housed the school’s ICT suite, was well alight.

All 219 pupils at the school were evacuated and sent home as firefighters from across the region battled the blaze.

They could not prevent the flames from destroying the block but the nearby nursery, infants and Flying Start buildings are believed to have been undamaged.

Nearby residents have been advised to keep their windows and doors shut as the site continues to give off thick black smoke.
