Firefighters extinguished a blaze involving a waste compactor.
Two hose jets were used to put out the fire at the site in Suez Street, Newton-le-Willows.
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called at 3.02am on Monday.
The fire was extinguished by 4.34am. Around 25% of the mechanical compactor was damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
A fire engine from Newton-le-Willows Community Fire Station and one from St Helens Community Fire Station attended the call-out.
